Alexander Graham Bell
Born: March 3, 1847, Edinburgh, Scotland Died: August 2, 1922, Nova Scotia, Canada Most Famous Invention: Telephone. As an inventor, Alexander Graham Bell created many things throughout his life, all of which were overshadowed by his most famous invention, the telephone. Today, Bell phones don't look much like the phones we have today, but they remain the foundation of telephony. Bell's discovery of the telephone began when he became very interested in the science of sound. This interest arose because his mother and wife were deaf. He carried out a number of experiments involving sound, the most successful of which allowed him to send sound signals over telegraph cables. This was the first major step in the invention of the telephone.
After this, Bell managed to obtain funding for his invention, and he hired his famous assistant, Thomas Watson. Together, they created the telephone. The first words spoken over the telephone occurred on March 10, 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell himself.
These words were, 'Mr Watson, come here, I want to see you.' Bell wasn't the only person at the time working on the invention of the telephone. This means that as soon as the invention is running, it must be sent to the patent office to get the patent first. After obtaining the patent, Bell and his investors founded the Bell Telephone Company in 1877.
Other Discoveries of Alexander Graham Bell Bell had a brilliant career as an inventor, creating many famous inventions besides the telephone. These discoveries include:
Metal Detector
Audiometer (This is a tool used to detect hearing problems)

Bell discovered many techniques that helped teach speech to deaf people.
Bell invented a tool to help find icebergs.
